Euro 2020, Spain vs Poland: Top 5 players to watch out for in SPA vs POL: Spain will hope to shake off the disappointment of failing to beat Sweden when they face Poland on Sunday (IST) during their Group E clash in Euro 2020. La Roja were left frustrated against Sweden and will know that three points are of paramount importance against Poland.
Since Poland lost their opening game to Slovakia, it is safe to say both teams need nothing short of a win on Sunday. As the clock ticks towards this hugely-significant clash for Spain and Poland, we take a closer look at the top five players to watch out for during the game.
Euro 2020, Spain vs Poland: Top 5 players to watch out for in SPA vs POL:
Euro 2020, Spain vs Poland: Key Player 1
Ferran Torres (Spain)
The Manchester City winger enjoyed a commendable debut season in England. As such, there were plenty of hopes on Torres ahead of the Euros.
Now that Spain have serious concerns surrounding the form of Alvaro Morata, the significance of Torres has sky-rocketed.
Torres is pretty much at a nascent stage in his international career, but considering Spain are in transition, the 21-year-old will have to shoulder some major responsibility in attack starting with the game against Poland.
Euro 2020, Spain vs Poland: Key Player 2
Robert Lewandowski (Poland)
Although Lewandowski was considered one of the contenders for the golden boot, the striker endured a forgetful start to Euro 2020. As Poland went on to lose, Lewandowski cut a frustrated figure.
Irrespective of the opening day jitters, the Bayern Munich striker will be still backing himself. Lewandowski will know that Spain can concede chances like they did against Sweden.
And unlike Alexander Isak, the Poland captain will be confident of punishing them thanks to his killer-instinct in front of goal.
Euro 2020, Spain vs Poland: Key Player 3
The 18-year-old Barcelona sensation started ahead of Thiago in the opening game against Sweden. Even when Spain were chasing the opening goal till the very end, Pedri was not sacrificed.
This shows the amount of confidence Luis Enrique has on the teenager. It does not come without any merit as well after how Pedri so effortlessly took on the responsibility of putting his best foot forward in his first ever major international tournament appearance.
Euro 2020, Spain vs Poland: Key Player 4
Wojciech Szczesny (Poland)
During the defeat to Slovakia, Szczesny set an unwanted record by becoming the first goalkeeper to concede an own goal in the history of the Euros. It was a very unfortunate and harsh to be credited as an own goal, but it did.
Now Szczesny will be eyeing for an opportunity to make amends. Spain have had serious issues in front of goal so if Szczesny can shrug off the disappointment of the last game and make himself big in goal, Poland will fancy their chances of getting something from the game.
Euro 2020, Spain vs Poland: Key Player 5
Marcos Llorente (Spain)
Despite being played in an unnatural right-back position, Llorente has settled into his new role quite well. Since Llorente is a natural midfielder by trade, he is good on the ball and can pick a pass.
As such, nobody, even a recognized right-back like Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to keep Llorente out of the line-up.
Spain will be hoping he can get forward and make key contributions inside the final third. The side desperately needs goals and Llorente’s service could be key.
