Thangboi Singto has moved from I-League club Shillong Lajong to the Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters as an assistant coach. The 43-year-old was the in charge of the Shillong club.
Singto will serve as the Director of Youth Football for Kerala Blasters. That is an additional responsibility.
This will be Singto’s second innings in the ISL. As Lajong was a constituent of the North-East United in the inaugural 2014 ISL season, Singto has been an assistant manager for the Guwahati-based ISL combine.
Singto is parting ways with the Shillong Lajon after being in charge of the North-East team for five years – the third longest tenure for an I-League club coach. Only Khalid Jamil’s for seven years with Mumbai FC and Armando Colaco’s six years with Dempo FC have been longer.
The Kerala Blasters were the ISL runners-up in last season, repeating their best ever finish in the inaugural year of the fancied Indian football league.
With Tata Steel and JSW joining the fray, Indian Super League from this season will be a 10-team affair.
