Delayed coverage of all matches from the NBA, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and the NBA G League, US basketball’s minor league, will also be made available via the over-the-top (OTT) platform.
The move was announced by NBA Digital, the league’s department for digital content run in conjunction with US broadcaster Turner Sports, and will also feature highlights from the NBA 2K League, the NBA’s official esports series.
“We’re thrilled for Facebook Watch to now be a place where basketball fans can come together to get caught up on and debate the latest action from each of the NBA’s four leagues,” said Devi Mahadevia, Facebook’s North America sports programming lead.
“The NBA boasts one of the most vibrant sports communities on our platform – and by delivering these game recaps, the league will be able to engage with fans around the world in new and exciting ways.”
Video recaps will span every game during the season, including the NBA summer league, as well as pre-season and playoff matches where applicable.
In addition, the NBA will host a weekly ‘Watch Party’ session on Facebook, allowing fans around the world to watch and interact with game recaps and videos together in real-time.
WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K League Watch sessions will also be held via the social media platform once a month.
Sam Farber, the NBA’s vice president for digital media, added: “Through Facebook’s innovative Watch Party experience, basketball fans around the world can interact in real-time and share in their passion for the game.”
