FIH, the world governing body of hockey, will live stream the draw for the Olympic Hockey qualifying games.
The draw to decide the line-up for the 14 teams each for the men’s and women’s qualifying matches for Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be conducted at the FIH Headquarters in Lausanne on Septeber 9, Monday.
There is a lot of excitement among Indian fans as Hockey India faces a possibility of hosting Pakistan in a bid to qualify for the Olympic Games next year.
The draw, to be conducted by the FIH CEO Thierry Weil, will be streamed live on the FIH Facebook page from 4:30 pm (IST). The fans can catch the action at https://www.facebook.com/fihockey/.
The Indian men, based upon the current FIH rankings, will be playing their Tokyo 2020 qualifier against Pakistan, Austria or host. Being in the top half of the pool, third-ranked India enjoy the “host nation” status for the qualifiers. The teams ranked between 8 and 14 get the status of the “away team”.
The teams ranked from first to third will be drawn against the 12th to 14th ranked teams.
“We are delighted to inform you that the draw to determine the matches of the upcoming FIH Hockey Olympic qualifiers will be held on September 9 at 1630 (hours IST) at the headquarters of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Lausanne, Switzerland. It will be conducted by FIH CEO Thierry Weil and will be streamed live on the FIH Facebook page.
FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers for men and women will be hosts in India between November 1 and 3 and feature two matches for each. The winner of the two matches will qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Indian women will be drawn against Korea, Belgium, USA or Canada.
