A Portuguese radio station seems to have ended Cristiano Ronaldo’s long search for several strangers, who fed now the billionaire sports icon during the years when he as a child had little money to buy a dinner.
Ronaldo wanted to repay the debt and express his gratitude. But where would he find those three girls whom he would visit at a McDonald’s outlet closer to his childhood club in Portugal in a hope to get some burgers, leftovers before the store was closed at night, for free.
His long wait now seems to be over as at least one of the three ladies has reportedly been traced by a radio station in Portugal. The lady now is married and a mother of two.
Ronaldo during an interview with ITV had launched a campaign to find three ladies.
The football icon had shared that how he and other youngsters at his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon would knock on the door of a McDonald’s next to the stadium for free food where on girl named Edna and “two others” would help them with the stuff left unsold before the store was closed for the day. He could never find again.
ESPNFC had also shared Ronaldo’s appeal on its official twitter handle @ESPNFC.

A Portuguese radio station has managed to reach out to one of the three girls Paula Leca. The former restaurant worker says she would happily accept Ronaldo’s invitation for a dinner. She also recalls the days when Ronaldo along with his club mates would visit the McDonald’s. British tabloid The Sun has published the excerpts of her conversation with the radio presenter.
“They would appear in front of the restaurant and when there were hamburgers left over our manager would give us permission to hand them over. One of the boys was Cristiano Ronaldo who was perhaps the most timid of them all,” she said.
“This happened almost every night each week. I still laugh about it all now. I had already told my son about it but he thought it was a fib because he couldn’t imagine his mum ever giving Ronaldo a hamburger. My husband already knew about it, because sometimes he would go to pick me up from work at night and he also saw him.
“It’s funny to go back now to something that happened so long ago. It shows his humility. At least now people know this wasn’t an invention. If he invited me out for dinner, I’d go for sure. The first thing I’d do would be to say thank you and during the meal we would have time to remember those times.”
His search for Edna and the other girl might continue for a while though. Paula’s husband Jose Costa told the radio station she had sadly lost contact with former boss Edna.
