French Open Day 2 Live Updates: Federer, Swiatek, Medvedev, Ruud progress to round 2- Tennis Legend Roger Federer,  Defending champion Iga Swiatek, Casper Ruud, and Daniil Medvedev emerged victorious on Day 2 of the French Open. Serena Williams also booked her spot in Round 2 after defeating Irina Begu.

Roger Federer has started off in style at Roland Garros with wins in straight sets (6-2, 6-4, 6-3) against Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in the first round of the French Open. He dropped just two points in the first set as he began his quest for record 21st Grand Slam.

Iga Swiatek has defeated Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan in straights sets to win the opening round match in French Open. She started her title defence in style by winning the opening set without dropping a point. Juvan came back in the second set but couldn’t match the last year’s champion. The match ended 6-0, 7-5 in favour of Iga Swiatek.

In another fixture, World No.2 Daniil Medvedev started off in a grand manner in the French Open against Russian compatriot Bublik. He dropped just three points each in the first two sets (6-3, 6-3) in his bid to progress for the second round at Roland Garros 2021. But, he faced stiff competition from Bublik in the last set 7-5. Towards the end, Medvedev kept his nerves to win the match and progress to the second round.

Geneva Open champion Casper Ruud bounced back in the second set to win it 6-2 and then went on to claim the third set which followed a mouthwatering fourth set finish. The match didn’t start in his favour of Casper Ruud as he lost the 1st set against the French in the opening round of the French Open 2021 (7-5). The match finished 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 in favour of Norwegian. The epic battle lasted for 3 hours.

On Day 2, the biggest highlight will be the comeback of the swiss maestro Roger Federer & Serena Williams to Roland Garros and the start of title defence by Iga Swiatek.

The opening day of the French Open was action-packed as 4th seed Dominic Thiem was knocked out in the opening round.

Having missed most of last year after he underwent two knee operations, Federer will play his first Grand Slam match in 16 months against qualifier Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.

After an early loss on clay in Geneva, Federer admitted his expectations for Paris are low but the 2009 champion will still be looking forward to his return.

French Open Day 2 Live Updates – Serena Williams vs Irina Camelia Begu

Serena Willilams came out on top after she defeated Irina Begu 7-6(6), 6-2 to book a spot in the second round in Paris.

Creating history in her first-ever night session at Roland Garros, the 23-time Grand Slam champion had to resist two set points during a first-set comeback by World No.74 Begu. Although, she finally overcame the Romanian in an hour and 42 minutes.
