Come the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir may walk in together to open their political innings in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) colours.

Sunday Guardian, quoting  highly placed sources in the BJP, has reported that the party is likely to field celebrities in the Lok Sabha elections next year. Gambhir, Dhoni and out-of-favour Aam Admi Party leader, poet politician Kumar Vishwas are tipped to get the BJP tickets for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

A Delhi resident, Gambhir is tipped to replace sitting Member of Parliament Meenakshi Lekhi in the same New Delhi constituency.

“Reports from the ground about Meenakshi Lekhi are not good. People from her constituency are not happy with her work and the party leadership has decided that she will not be repeated this time as a candidate from New Delhi. Gambhir, in most likelihood, will be the party’s candidate from the same seat. He has wide acceptability and is known for his social work. He is a Delhi’ite and will do his best for the people of Delhi,” the website has reported quoting a unanimous senior BJP leader.

Dhoni is tipped to get the Party ticket from a constituency in Jharkhand.

The two cricket stars will also be among the star campaigners for the Party. “Both players have wide acceptability, respect and credibility across the country and are regarded as leaders by all sections of society. They are not only leaders from their respective States, but also leaders of the country. Dhoni is currently the captain of the Chennai Super Kings team playing at the IPL (Indian Premier League) and thus has reach and mass base even in the southern parts of India. Both these players joining the party will be an asset for us,” the senior leader said.

Gabhir has always been committed to social causes selflessly. He is running a community kitchen in New Delhi’s Patel Nagar area where several 100 poor are served lunch every day. A true patriot, he had come forward to support families of martyrs and has always kept the national interest above self. Gambhir had also been the voice of young, underprivileged  cricketers in the Delhi and District Cricket Association.

The sitting BJP MP from Ghaziabad,  Minister of State for External Affairs Gen (Retd) V.K. Singh was reportedly not willing to contest the Lok Sabha polls any more.

Kumar Vishwas, one of the founding members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is also in touch with the party leadership at the Centre and could get a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, the report quoting another senior BJP leader states.

Kumar off late has been hitting the AAP leadership hard from various platforms. Vishwas has expressed his displeasure with the AAP leadership ever since the party’s poor performance in the Punjab Assembly elections and municipal elections in Delhi. He has been sidelined and was not considered as the party’s candidate to the Rajya Sabha from Delhi.

Vishwas had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from AAP against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, but had lost the elections.
