The former South African batsman has been impressive in his new role as a cricket coach. The Kuwait national cricket team has made a steady progress under him. He also managed Kuwait to a historic win as they edge closer to a qualifying spot for the 2020 ICC World T20 in Australia.
The second edition of the T10 League will see a total of eight teams – two more than the six in the last season. Bengal Tigers, Karachians, Maratha Arabians, Northern Warriors, Pakhtoon Team, Punjabi Legends and Rajasthani Heroes will join the defending champions Kerala Kings.
The tournament will be played in Dubai over ten days in December this year.
Gibbs has represented South Africa in 90 Tests, 248 ODIs, and 23 T20Is in an international career spanning between 1996 and 2010. He bid adieu to international competitive cricket after amassing more than 14,500 international runs across all the three formats of the game.
Gibbs has represented Deccan Chargers – now Sunrisers Hyderabad – from 2008 to 2010 in the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians had signed him in 2012 for a mere ₹25 lakh. That happens to be his last stint with the Indian Premier League. The former South African batsman figures at the 136th position in the Insidesport IPL MONEYBALL ranking, with total IPL career earnings of ₹ 8 crores.
