Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij finds shooter Manu Bhaker’s tweet to remind him about the promised ₹2 crore cash award “disgusting”.

The Minister in a series of tweets has snubbed the 16-year-old Youth Olympic gold medallist Manu Bhaker for asking if the ₹ 2 crore cash announcement was a serious promise or just  a “jumla”. The teenaged shooter had also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Central Youth Affairs and Sports Minister RVS Rathore and Haryana Sports Secretary Ashok Khemka in her tweet.

Manu had also shared screen shots of the tweets which Vij posted on his official handle @anilvijminister to announce ₹2 crore cash award to her for winning the gold at the Youth Olympics.

“Congratulations to Manu Bhaker for winning shooting gold in Youth Olympics. Haryana government will give a cash prize of ₹2 crore to Manu Bhaker on her achievement. Previous governments used to pay ₹10 lakh,” tweeted Anil Vij after Bhaker had become the first Indian shooter to win a gold at the Youth Olympics. had written in a series of tweets moments after Bhaker became the first Indian shooter to win a Youth Olympics gold.

The harsh reminder, it seems, has offended the minister, who while assuring to deliver on his promise has subbed the young shooter for raising her concern on the social media platform. The Minister in a series of tweets has termed Manu’s approach as “disgusting”, while advising her to go to the Sports Department instead of raising her concerns in public.

While the Minsiter had announced ₹ 2 crore cash award, Sports Secretary had reportedly said the shooter only qualified for ₹ 1 crore as per the State policies.

Minister’s public snub has sparked a debate on social media. However, he has yet again assured to fulfil his commitment of ₹ 2 crore prize to the shooter and this is no mean consolation for Manu Bhaker.

“We have increased Prize money from 10 lakh which was being given in previous Congress Govt. to 2 crores for this event. We have delivered prize money won by Haryana Players upto August on 15 August last year and remaining  will be delivered possibly in January this year,” the minister had confirmed in yet another tweet.
