Hero Indian Open Golf will have its highest ever prize money for the current year. At Rs. 12 crore ($1.75 million), it will be the highest purse offered for any golf tournament in India.
The winner of the tournament will get Rs. 1.97 crore ($291,660), which is the highest in the country. Hero started sponsoring the tournament with a purse of $300,000 in 2005. Since then, the prize money has multiplied sixfold.
Defending champion SSP Chawrasia will take up the challenge by the likes of Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa for the title.
Sanctioned by both Asian and European tours, the tournament will take place from March 9-12 at the Gary Player Golf Course at Gurugram. The championship is returning to the venue after eight years.
