Biggest ever purse, Rs. 12 crore, for Hero Indian Open Golf

Hero Indian Open Golf will have its highest ever prize money for the current year. At Rs. 12 crore ($1.75 million), it will be the highest purse offered for any golf tournament in India.

The winner of the tournament will get Rs. 1.97 crore ($291,660), which is the highest in the country. Hero started sponsoring the tournament with a purse of $300,000 in 2005. Since then, the prize money has multiplied sixfold.

Defending champion SSP Chawrasia will take up the challenge by the likes of Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa for the title.

Sanctioned by both Asian and European tours, the tournament will take place from March 9-12 at the Gary Player Golf Course at Gurugram. The championship is returning to the venue after eight years.

Aakash Ohri, Senior Executive Director, DLF Home Developers Ltd said, “the course is gearing up to provide pristine conditions in the second week of March. We are sure that the players will enjoy the challenge on the course, and the new facilities that the club has to offer”.

Hero MotoCorp CMD Pawan Munjal said, “Brand Hero is now a major supporter of golf on all the three Tours – Asian Tour, European Tour and the US PGA.”

“With the strongest-ever line up of Indian players, I am sure the fans have a lot to look forward to at the Hero Indian Open 2017,” he added.
