In run up to the Disney+ launch in India on March 29, planned to coincide with the scheduled start date for the Indian Premium League 2020, Star India has named Hotstar as Disney+ Hotstar. In the new logo creative, Hotstar’s lemon and green streaks are out and in comes the Disney+ theme with different hues of blue.
The Hotstar Premium and Hotstar VIP logos have also been remodelled. The new branding has been launched for the android and iOS variants.
Disney+ will compete with the other global video-streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, which have already taken an early lead in the Indian digital content market. ZEE5, Voot, Eros Now and SonyLIV are the other major brands in the highly competitive market.
With the branding come lucrative offerings of new content, including movies.
The new offerings are expected to be in synch with the duel price packages as had been hinted by the former Disney CEO Robert Iger during a shareholders conference. “ (In) India, we’re going to launch bundled with Hotstar, directly bundled meaning it is Disney plus Hotstar as a product, we’re not giving specifics about the price at this point, but expect that there’ll be two primary products brought into India,” Iger had said.
“One will be more premium in nature that will include the entire library of original programming and the other one will be more basic that will have the library and not the original programming priced for the market and launched at a very peak period of time for the IPL, the Cricket League.”
The planned launch to coincide with the Indian Premier League 2020 might not work out now as the fear of the league being deferred is rising by the day with outbreak and rapid spread of the novel Coronavirus.
