He won’t let you eat your favorite chocolate, won’t let you take a bite of what you crave for.
He won’t let you reach out to your mobile phone for months.
He will ignore your bruises, agony and put you through rigorous training with no compassion.
He will stretch you beyond you think you can even when you are gasping for a breath.
You will only have one emotion for the person. Hate. Till one last day when you are right at the top of the world with just one person to thank for taking you to the pinnacle. The person you hated every time he posed that extra faith in you. Every time he pushed you that extra bit to take you ahead of the rest.
This is the essence of PV Sindhu-Pullela Gopichand teacher-pupil association and Olympic and BWF World Championship finalists’ audio-visual tribute to her Teacher.
#IHateMyTeacher is the title of the digital film, which Sindhu has produced as a rich tribute to her coach – Gopichand – this Teachers’ Day. The short film highlights why it is alright to hate the ones you love. The short video describes that how Gopichand drove Sindhu to rule the badminton world.
Sindhu has produced the film with Gatorade, the brand she has been endorsing in India. It highlights the tough task master, whose selflessness and sacrifices have given India a badminton icon that Sindhu is.
The film shows the story of a young girl in search of a normal childhood, full of fun, friends, and laughter. However, her idyllic childhood was transformed into a formidable force, when someone powered her to immense success on badminton courts.
Titled, #I hate my teacher’, the film, reveals how Sindhu was made to practice tirelessly even with bruised knees as coach Gopichand would persuade his best talent to keep going.
Sindhu is heard saying in the video, “I hate my teacher. He is the reason for my scars. My teacher is not like your teacher. He shouts at me. I hate him because he never gives up. Because he believes in me, more than I do in myself. Thank you, coach.”
“Coach has worked relentlessly and has had big dreams for me. He is my faith replenisher. Working with Gatorade on this film has hit close to home, and I can’t help but feel indebted to coach for his relentless pursuit of excellence. This Teachers’ Day, I dedicate all my success to him and urge everyone else to also honor the driving force in their lives. Let’s hate our teachers for pushing us further and believing in us more than we believe in ourselves,” says Sindhu.
“This Teacher’s Day, I dedicate all my success to him and urge everyone else to also honour the driving force in their lives. Let’s hate our teachers for pushing us further and believing in us more than we believe in ourselves,” added Sindhu.
Sindhu later also took twitter and shared the film. “I HATE MY TEACHER, Gopichand. Watch the video to know why! #sweatforgold@gatorade,” her message read.

The idea behind the film was to bring alive the crucial love-hate relationship with the mentors, guides, trainers and teachers who have pushed us to succeed, said Vipul Prakash, Senior Vice President – Beverage Category, PepsiCo India. “Authenticity has become the bedrock of consumer sentiment and as an ode to teachers, we couldn’t have found a better story to tell than that of our brand ambassador PV Sindhu.”
