ICC Test Rankings: New Zealand dethrones India to claim no. 1 rank after series win over England – After a thumping series win in England, Kane Williamson’s New Zealand side achieved number one spot in ICC Test rankings. Blackcaps dethroned Team India from the number one spot. India is now ranked second with 121 points while New Zealand have 123 points. 

ICC Test Rankings: Tim Paine’s Australia is ranked third followed by Joe Root’s England and Babar Azam’s Pakistan. 

NZ beat ENG 2nd Test: New Zealand beat England by 8 wickets, claim series 1-0

Playing without their key players – Kane Williamson and Tim Southee – Tom Latham led New Zealand side defeated England side in the second Test to win the two-match Test series 1-0. This is Blackcaps’ first series win in the last 22 years.

ICC Test Rankings: Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Neil Wagner starred with the ball for New Zealand as they displayed disciplined bowling and did not let any English batsman settle. While on the other hand, veteran batsman Ross Taylor beside newcomers Will Young and Devon Conway were at their best to tackle James Anderson and Broad in the first innings.

World Test Championship Context

This win will boost the confidence of New Zealand as they will be facing India on June 18 for the final of the World Test Championship. With the second game-ending on Day-4, the New Zealand side got another day to rest and be fit for the final.

Key Blackcaps bowlers are back in form as Boult picked a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the second Test while Wagner and Henry were also amongst wickets. Tim Southee bowled exceptionally well in the first game of the series while their veteran batsman Taylor is also in form. Debutant Conway has shown that he belongs to this level with a double ton in the first game.
