South Africa is well poised to maintain their winning run as they take on rookies Thailand at the Manuka Oval in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup on Friday.
The South African girls are unlikely to make any changes in the team for this game in Canberra. They have a well-equipped batting unit in Lizelle Leelikely, Dane van Niekerk, Laura Wolvaardt and Mignon du Preez. The team has a formidable bowling attack too with the likes of Shabnim Ismail, Marizanne Kapp and Sune Luus in the side.
The Thailand team have impressive beginners despite defeats in both their outings Down Under.
They showed glimpses of their potential in their tournament opener against the West Indies. But in the next found England too hot to handle. Skipper Sornarin Tippoch will hope her side can put on a better show against the Proteas. The likes of Nattaya Boochatham and Soraya Lateh will hope to give the South African batswomen a challenge.
The Thailand girls will be well aware of the fact that to make it to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup through qualifiers was not mean achievement. They are here for precious exposure and experience. That should make the team fearless. And dealing with a fearless opponent is always tough than taking on a lot that is under pressure.
