The Writing is on the wall. Pakistan and Thailand will be heading home after player their last league game in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match. The match will be only of academic interest.
All remains to be seen is that can the Pakistan women’s can sign off a disappointing World Cup with a consolation win, which looks very much in the office, or will Thailand create history with their first win in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The Javeria Khan-led side, however, would be disappointed to be knocked out after starting their campaign with a win over 2016 champions West Indies. But they went down against England and South Africa. Their regular skipper Bismah Maroof getting ruled out of the tournament didn’t help either.
Qualifiers Thailand in fact had nothing to lose. Reaching the World Cup finals of an ICC event is itself was the biggest date in the nation’s cricketing history. They return with precious experience having rubbed shoulders with the best in the business.
