Hotstar has scored big, really big, on the back of the ICC World Cup live streaming to consolidate itself as India’s leading OTT platform with 300 million active users. A report by Bengaluru-based research and consulting firm RedSeer has revealed that Hotstar leads the race with 300 mn active users followed by Dailyhunt (190 mn active users) and MX Player (176 million).
The agency has ranked India’s 15 leading OTT content players from sports, news, short video to music, etc.
Chinese social media video streaming player, TikTok is place fourth (129 mn), followed by Times Internet-owned musical audio streaming platform Gaana (110 mn) and Reliance Jio’s Saavn (92 mn).
American video streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix also figure in the list with monthly 13 million and 11 million active users respectively.
“Nothing unites our country like cricket. Every time there is a World Cup or any other sizeable cricket tournament, we see a very high activity on these content platforms, people don’t just want to watch matches, they also want to read and talk about it.” RedSeer Director Ujjwal Chaudhry said in a Press release.
Hotstar has an edge with precious LIVE sports content, that includes International Cricket Council tournaments, Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Live and archival cricket rights, Asian Cricket Council tournaments, Indian Premier League and a host of other professional sports leagues in India for disciplines like kabaddi, badminton and table tennis.
