ICC WTC Final – IND vs NZ: Nearly two weeks back, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult were Mumbai Indians lead pacers under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. They would train together, share ideas and make plans against different batters. But now with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 suspended due to coronavirus, the duo will now be rivals leading their respective team’s bowling attack when India and New Zealand lock horns in Southampton in the inaugural World Test Championship final scheduled from June 18-22.
Interestingly, Bumrah and Boult are not the only IPL teammates who will be going hammers and tongs against each other. Here are the others-
ICC WTC Final – Ind vs NZ: Virat Kohli vs Kyle Jamieson
Kyle Jamieson was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s most expensive buy of IPL 2021. Bought for Rs 15 crore, the BlackCap enjoyed his captain Virat Kohli’s confidence in the seven games RCB played. He was entrusted in the middle-overs as Harshal Patel’s deputy, whenever Kohli was on the lookout for wickets. But now, he will be taking all the experience he earned in his debut IPL season and use it to counter Kohli’s threat.
Other RCB teammates Jamieson will be against Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj
ICC WTC Final, Ind vs NZ – Wriddhiman Saha vs Kane Williamson (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
There is no doubt, Kane Williamson is one of the finest batters of the current, especially in Test cricket. His classic style and risk-free style of play make him New Zealand’s most lethal weapon. But if anyone in the current Indian WTC squad has seen him closely, it’s his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Wriddhiman Saha.
The duo has been a teammate for three years now and is well-versed with each other’s strength and weakness. Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri would certainly have a word with him to get rid of Williamson soon.
Chennai Super Kings: Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja vs Mitchell Santner
Yes, with conditions in England conducive for seamers, Kiwis might go in with just one spinner. So, it’s either going to be Ish Sodhi or Mitchell Santner. But if there is even a little help for a spinner at Ageas Bowl and New Zealand opts for both their spinners, India can find themselves in trouble. Santner will play a crucial role when strategies will be made to get tackle Pujara and Jadeja challenge. The Indian duo if gets settled, can take the game away, something New Zealand would like to vary of. Santner can chip in with his batting contributions down the order too.
