ICC WTC Finals: Team India’s batting mainstay Cheteshwar Pujara, who plays only Test cricket for India, has said that the upcoming ICC WTC Final is like ICC World Cup.
“It’s a dream for all of us because WTC is indeed the World Cup of Test format and we all would like to win this trophy,” Pujara told cricket.com.
Pujara further stated that the players can’t wait to feel their hands on the silverware in England next month.
“This will be a huge game for all of us because we have worked very hard to reach there. Each Test series was very important for us which has taken us to England for the final. This team has shown that we have got the tremendous potential and hopefully, we will do well in the final as we have been doing in Test cricket for a long time,” cricket.com quoted Pujara as saying.
The much-awaited World Test Championship final between Virat Kohli-led India and Kane Williamson’s New Zealand will take place at The Rose Bowl, Southampton starting June 18.
India topped the WTC table with 12 wins in 17 Test between 2019-2021. They clinched 5 test series, including a historic triumph in Australia.
All players from the India squad are in Mumbai as the BCCI had asked all the players to assemble at the team hotel. They are undergoing mandatory quarantine before leaving for England for the ICC WTC Final and 5 Tests against England.
Every player had to take three COVID-19 tests before joining the India squad. They will also undergo 10-day quarantine after reaching England. Both Men’s and Women’s tour will leave for the UK on the same chartered flight on June 2. The respective sides will be in action for the next couple of months.
