ICC WTC Final – India vs New Zealand: Cricket Legend Kapil Dev has a piece of advice for the International Cricket Council. As India & New Zealand are gearing up for the ICC World Test Championship finals (ICC WTC Finals), the 1983 World Cup winner feels that WTC Finals should be played in a best of three format.
“I would have preferred more than just one match to decide such an important title. Of course, these days it is not a big thing to prepare for a match. It helps to play a few matches in those conditions but that can’t be an excuse,” Kapil Dev told Mid-Day.
“It is something the ICC has done to popularise Test matches. There will be good cricket for the public, I am sure. I feel three-Test finals would have been great,” he added.
ICC WTC Final – India vs New Zealand: Virat Kohli-led India will lock horns against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand at The Rose Bowl, Southampton starting June 18. The legendary all-rounder also stressed the fact that originally slated venue Lord’s would have been a better choice than Southampton. Kapil feels that Lord’s would have been a great venue for the ultimate test due to its history.
“Lord’s would have a better venue than Rose Bowl because the ground has great history. Even Manchester [Old Trafford] would have been a good choice but there is something about celebrating a win at Lord’s,” Mid-Day quoted Kapil Dev who lifted the 1983 World Cup at Lord’s balcony.
ICC WTC Final, Ind vs NZ: The veteran feels that India look like a superior batting side but it will be interesting to see how Virat Kohli and co tackle the conditions.
“The bowlers provide a solid back-up to India’s cricket campaigns these days but the quality of batsmen will stand out in the final,” he signed off.
