South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir’s hopes to play in IPL 10 has been fulfilled finally. After failing to find any takers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions , Tahir now replaces an injured Australian pacer Mitchell Marsh in the Rising Pune Supergiants to be led by Aussie Steve Smith.
Marsh, who suffered a shoulder injury after the second Test against India in Bengaluru earlier this month, was ruled out of the remainder of the four-match series.
“Australia and Rising Pune Supergiants all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the 10th edition of the VIVO IPL owing to a shoulder injury. As Marsh’s replacement, the franchise have roped in South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir into the squad,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.
“Tahir, who was unsold in the 2017 VIVO IPL Player Auction is from the registered available player pool list (RAPP list). As per the player regulations, RPS is allowed the replacement player from the RAPP list.”
“Tahir had earlier represented Delhi Daredevils in VIVO IPL 2016,” the statement added.
The cash-rich IPL will be played from April 5 to May 21.
