IND vs ENG 1st Test: James Anderson FINALLY dismisses Virat Kohli after 7 years, equals Anil Kumble’s record of 619 Test wickets – Team India captain Virat Kohli failed to win the battle against England’s James Anderson as he was sent back by the English bowler on a golden duck in the first Test here at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Thursday. By taking Kohli’s wicket, Anderson achieved a unique feat of 619 Test wickets, equalling India’s former spinner Anil Kumble’s tally.

This is the first time in the last seven years that Anderson has dismissed Kohli in Test cricket. Earlier, Cheteshawar Pujara was dismissed a ball before that by Anderson. Virat edged the ball to keeper on the keeper and Anderson could not control his emotions. This was the biggest battle from the Test and Virat has lost it.

Anderson on Kohli

“I’m definitely excited to play against him again. You always want to challenge yourself against the best in the world and he’s certainly that. We know how big a player he is for them both as a batsman and as captain, he has a huge influence on that team. So we know he’s a big wicket and to be honest I don’t care if I get him out. As long as somebody gets him out that’s the main thing. He’s an important wicket,” said Anderson during a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

Kohli vs Anderson

Virat Kohli had a horrendous tour to England in 2014 where he managed only 134 runs in 10 innings at 13.4. The Indian skipper was nearly tamed by Anderson’s fast bowling in the overseas conditions. He puppeted Kohli so much so that he troubled the Indian batsman on four occasions.

The right-handed Indian batsman then metamorphized himself to that extent that during India’s next tour to England in 2018, Anderson couldn’t dismiss Kohli on a single occasion during the course of the series.
