Ind vs Eng 2nd T20: Two stars of IPL for Mumbai Indians — Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav — will make their India debut against England in the 2nd T20 match at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Suryakumar, an explosive middle-order batsman for IPL champion Mumbai Indians, received a maiden call-up after a fantastic season in the IPL 2020. He scored 480 runs at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 145.01 to help Mumbai clinch the title.
The Mumbaikar was in-form even in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with two half-centuries including a 91 and a century in five matches. The all-rounder is expected to play a crucial role in India’s middle-order in the coming years.
Ishan Kishan, the young Jharkhand captain has been on Team India’s radar for a long time but with Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni and KL Rahul rotating the wicketkeeping position, he had to wait for his chance. The MI wicketkeeper-batsman had his best IPL season in 2020 scoring 516 runs at an average of 57.33 and a strike rate of 145.76.

The MI duo was a major reason behind the franchise success in the IPL. He has been impressive with the big gloves too and has bee knocking on India’s door for some time now.
“A few interactions that helped my game so much has been with Hardik and Krunal Pandya and Pollard. I have seen how they plan a game, map their innings, confuse opposition by switching between big-hitting and strike rotation. I am a confident person. Watching them and talking to them have played an integral role in giving me that confidence which has really helped my game a lot. I am really fortunate to have that kind of exposure,” the Jharkhand captain said ahead of the match.
“It’s amazing to have mentors like Rohit bhai and so many others in the dressing room, you get to learn so much and adapt your game accordingly. It (the MI stint) is the bedrock of my cricket. The mentorship I received from the coaches and Rohit and Zaheer bhai really helped me,” Kishan added.
India will be eager to bounce back from the eight-wicket loss in the 1st T20I against England Friday. With two youngsters on the side, Virat Kohli will look to win the match on Sunday.
