Ind vs Eng 2nd Test: Good news for India; Axar Patel available for selection for Chepauk Test: Axar Patel has recovered completely and is now available for selection for the 2nd Paytm Test in Chennai against England to be played from Saturday, 13th February. The all-rounder had complained of pain in his left knee and was ruled out of the first Test.
According to BCCI’s official release, Patel has returned to full fitness and is in line for a Test debut in the Chennai Test starting Saturday. Consequently, Shabhaz Nadeem, Patel’s last-minute replacement for the first Test, was left out of the squad. Patel’s absence because of a left knee strain on the eve of the first Test possibly disturbed India’s combination.
It meant Washington Sundar had to play for the batting cushion at No. 7, which ruled Kuldeep Yadav out because India needed at least one bowler to take the ball away from right-hand batsmen.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee have now withdrawn Shahbaz Nadeem and Rahul Chahar from the main squad and added the duo back to the group of standby players.
India Test squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Md.
