IND vs ENG 2nd Test: James Anderson fifer wraps up India at 364 after KL Rahul’s batting masterclass | After lagging behind on the opening day of the 2nd Test at Lords, England bounced back in style as they wrapped up the visitors at 364 runs in the second session, courtesy James Anderson fifer.
England struck at the second ball of Day 2 as Ollie Robinson got rid of in-form KL Rahul who could only add 2 runs to his yesterday’s score and finished his innings at 129 runs. England enjoyed another success as James Anderson removed Ajinkya Rahane cheaply for just 1 run. England picked up four wickets in the first session of Day 2 and ripped off India’s middle order as well as their hopes of posting a total of 400+ runs. At lunch, India’s score read at 346/7 with Ravindra Jadeja (31) and Ishant Sharma (0) at the crease.
India lost their final eight wickets for just 97 runs. If offered 364 after losing the toss yesterday, Indian skipper Virat Kohli would have surely taken it. But given the enormous work that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul did on Thursday, visitors would be disappointed to now fall well short of 400. Starting the second session, it was hooping inswinger from Anderson which did the trick for hosts as he trapped Ishant in front of the wicket. Soon the veteran English bowler completed his 31st five-wicket haul as he squared up Bumrah with a tickle on one through to Buttler, who took the simplest of catches.
In the next over, Jadeja who was looking to clear the fence spooned a simple catch to Anderson at mid-on which completed a brilliant morning for England as the visitors folded up at 364 runs. James Anderson was the most successful England bowler as he picked up his 31st five-wicket haul.
IND vs ENG 2nd Test Brief Scores: India 364 (KL Rahul 129, Rohit Sharma 83; James Anderson 5-62) vs England.
