IND vs ENG 2nd Test: England pacer Ollie Robinson feels India skipper Virat Kohli’s wicket just before the end of the opening day of the second Test gives hosts a “bit of momentum” on Friday morning.
IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Robinson got the prized scalp of Kohli, who was caught in the slips for 42 as India scored 276/3 after the close of play on day one of the second Test on Thursday. “It was huge and gives us a bit of momentum for the morning. The plan to him was always fourth, fifth stump, back of a length… luckily the plan worked. We toiled hard today against their batters and to be fair, they played well,” said Robinson in a virtual press conference.
KL Rahul’s unbeaten ton and Rohit Sharma’s gutsy 83-knock helped India take the upper hand against England on opening day.
Talking about Indian batting, Robinson said, “County cricket, you get two or three good batters, here you get six or seven good batters. That’s international cricket. I’ve shown over the last couple of games that I’m ready for the toil when it comes.”
The England pacer feels the hosts’ bowlers lacked a bit of luck having dismissed only Indian batsmen on Thursday.
“I think on another day it might have happened. There were probably 10 or 15 play-and-misses that I could count and, on another day, we might have had them two- or three-down early,” said Robinson
“We definitely looked at conditions and thought we could get a few early ones here. It’s just one of those days where they didn’t nick it to be honest,” he added.
At stumps, India’s score reads 276/3 with Rahul (127*) and Ajinkya Rahane (1*) currently unbeaten at the crease.
Resuming the final session at 157/2, Kohli and Rahul mixed caution with aggression and they kept on moving the scoreboard, piling on the pressure on the hosts.
IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Rahul brought up his century in the 78th over of the innings and he along with the skipper kept the hosts at bay.
After winning the toss, Joe Root made no bones about the fact that he wanted to make use of the overcast conditions to put pressure on India. But Rohit and Rahul ensured India has a solid foundation
