Ind vs Eng 2nd Test: R Ashwin becomes first Indian to pick five-wicket haul and hit century at home ground in same Test- India’s ace spinner R Ashwin has become the first Indian player to scalp five wickets and smash a half-century at home ground (Chepauk Stadium, Chennai) in the same Test. The 34-year-old now has six five-wicket hauls and fifties in the same matches. He is ahead of Indian players Kapil Dev and Ravindra Jadeja with a half-century and five-for in the same Test.

After India lost quick wickets in their second innings, Ashwin’s came to the rescue. He and Virat Kohli put up a 96-run stand for the seventh wicket as India got an edge over the visitors on Day 3 of Ind vs Eng 2nd Test. The hosts have neared their lead to 400 runs in their bid to level the series 1-1. A win will boost India’s place in the ICC Test Championship table. The right-arm-spinner had earlier helped India save the Sydney Test match in Australia earlier this year.

India had lost their opening match by 277 runs.
