The catch also ended a very dangerous-looking partnership for the eighth wicket between Adil Rashid and Sam Curran. The two batsmen came together after the fall of England’s seventh wicket at the score of 200. But then, Rashid and Curran got together and provided some resistance.
At the score of 257 in the 50th over, Shardul Thakur was bowling to Adil Rashid. On the first ball of the over, Curran played a lofted shot which landed short of the incoming fielder at long-off. But Virat Kohli was annoyed by Prasidh Krishna’s effort as he wanted the youngster to make an attempt at taking the catch.

This reaction of Virat Kohli suggested that Indians were just starting to get worried. With 73 needed of 65 balls, things were not out of hand for the visitors. But on the very next ball, a slower delivery by Thakur, Rashid mistimed his drive and played it uppishly towards cover.
Virat Kohli was the fielder in that position and the ball was going to his left. Virat Kohli dived towards the ball and grabbed it with his left hand alone, despite being a right-hander. What was even more amazing was the fact that he was able to hold on to the ball despite landing on his knuckles, that too, on the hard surface of one of the adjoining pitches.
This one-handed catch with the wrong hand wasn’t the only one of the day. Jos Buttler, England’s captain had taken a one-handed catch himself, with his left hand, earlier in the day when he caught an edge by Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.
But Virat Kohli’s catch was in a league of his own. While Buttler had the wicketkeeper’s gloves on and didn’t have to dive, Virat Kohli had to contend with being airborne and the impact of a hard surface. His catch also proved to be the last nail in the coffin for England.
