Ind vs Eng 3rd T20: Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma will eager to return to his scoring ways when India take England in a must-win game on Thursday at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The Mumbai-batsman, who was rested for the first-two T20Is, managed just 15 off 17 balls in India’s eight-wicket loss in Ahmedabad.
The 32-year-old is closing in on a T20 milestone, as Virat Kohli and Co gear up to level the series.
Ind vs Eng 3rd T20: Rohit Sharma can surpass Martin Guptill
The Hitman is 52 runs away from surpassing New Zealand’s Martin Guptill’s 2839 runs tally in the shortest format. If he manages to do so in the Ind vs Eng 3rd T20, he will become the second-highest run-getter in the shortest format.
Furthermore, Rohit will be the second batsman after Indian skipper Virat Kohli to score 2800 in T20. Currently, Kohli leads the most T20 runs list with 3078 runs from 88 matches.
He recently became the first batsman to enter the 3000-club after his match-winning 73 not out in the second T20I against Eoin Morgan’s men.
The 32-year-old followed it up with 77 not out in the third game, but could not lead his team to victory as England chased 158 runs target successfully in 18.2 overs.
However, Kohli made big gains in the ICC T20I batting rankings. He re-entered into the top five best batsmen list. The Delhi-batsman is at the fifth spot with 744 points. He is 27 points behind fellow teammate KL Rahul who is at fourth position with 771 points.
Ind vs Eng 3rd T20: Yuzvendra Chahal also nearing T20 milestone
Chahal is behind Imran Tahir (63), Dale Steyn (64), Stuart Broad (65), who are three spots above him on the list.
England also have a chance to set a new record if they manage to beat India in the next match on March 18. They currently are level with Australia with 9 wins each against India in T20I cricket.
