Suryakumar Yadav made his India debut in the 2nd T20I match against England but due to the brilliance of another debut maker, Ishan Kishan, and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav awaited his chance in the dug-out. Later on, in the 3rd T20I match, the hapless Mumbaikar batsman was benched while making the way for his Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. Ever since his arrival at the crease, he seemed as if he belonged there and had a bag full of international experience. With that, he became the first Indian batsman to hit the first ball in a T20I for a six.

SKY played some sumptuous strokes to notch up his first T20 international fifty. Soon after piling up his milestone, Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged OUT on a rather controversial decision. He played a ramp shot off Sam Curran to deep fine leg. Dawid Malan took a diving catch running in front and the big screen showed that the ball might have touched the ground. But due to lack of conclusive evidence, Surya had to stay with the soft signal decision of OUT. But by then his innings had put India in a commanding position to score big and give India a chance to level off the series.
