Ind vs Eng 4th Test: Maninder Singh’s message to BCCI, 'No need for bizarre wicket; Indian bowlers good to win on sporty wickets'

India vs England 4th Test – Maninder Singh to BCCI: India’s victory in the 3rd test match against England in less than five sessions probably drew less applause and more brickbats with criticism ranging from “not a good advertisement for Test Cricket” to ” an ugly win on a bizarre wicket”. Former India player Maninder Singh, a specialist left-arm orthodox tweaker who spun a web around the likes of West Indian legends in the 80s, is of the opinion that curators and Indian think tank need not underestimate Indian bowlers and opt for an overtly crazy and bizarre wicket to produce result in their favor.

Ind vs Eng: Maninder to – ’No need for such a bizarre wicket’
“My advice to the curator of Ahmedabad pitch is please do not prepare a wicket like this which finishes the game in less than one and a half days. This is a very bad advertisement for Test Cricket. People come to see five days of quality cricket and what did we see in Ahmedabad? You have this biggest and most beautiful stadium but a pitch that does not sync well with it. Critics are saying it was a below-par wicket. I need not say anything more. People have seen it all. 30 wickets falling in just 7 hours? This was anything but normal. I believe Indian bowlers can win matches on good and sporting wickets and there is no need to prepare such minefields,’ Maninder told Inside Sports in an exclusive interview on Monday.

India vs England 4th Test: Indian bowlers good to win matches on any wicket says Maninder

The former India spinner said Indian bowlers were potent, lethal and can win matches on even good wickets and there was no need to underestimate them. “I do not understand why is this feeling that we need to prepare rank turners to big Indian bowlers home advantage. This home advantage thing is being blown out of proportion of host nations as a result of which spectators and fans are devoid of quality cricket. I would urge the ICC and BCCI to look into this issue. At the end of the day, it should the game of cricket which should be the winner.”

Ind vs Eng 4th Test: India will win the 4th test very easily
Maninder believes that India would easily win the 4th Test match, win the series 3-1 and reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship. “Undoubtedly, India is the best Test-playing nation and England is really a very good side. I am surprised that India lost the first Test in Chennai. A 4-0 victory was a safe bet. I think India will win the question is how soon it will take. I think India should wrap it up in four days if a good wicket is prepared for the fourth Test. India has a very balanced side and will be too tough to be challenged on a spin-friendly track in Ahmedabad. The bigger question is how to win the ICC Test Championship final on English condition on a sporting pitch.”

India lead the series 2-1 against England and will head into the fourth Test match to be held in Ahmedabad from Thursday, March 4. India need a win or a draw to win the series and storm into the final of ICC Test Championship to be p[layed in Lord’s against New Zealand.
