IND vs ENG 4th Test: No Virat Kohli vs James Anderson rivalry at Oval? – The famous Virat Kohli vs James Anderson battle is unlikely to take place in the 4th Test at Oval as England are looking to rest the veteran pacer. Anderson, who has scalped 13 wickets in the three matches so far, has got Kohli’s wicket twice including in the last Test.

However, at 39, It is difficult for James Anderson to keep playing every Test match. He has already bowled 116.3 overs only two balls less from Ollie Robinson, the highest in the series. With a gruelling Ashes series coming up, England will need him at his peak condition if the Ashes goes ahead as planned.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: England head coach Chris Silverwood told media that workload of the two new ball bowlers Ollie Robinson and James Anderson will have to be managed as they don’t want to risk injuries.

“What I don’t want to do is break them. We’ve got a lot of cricket in front of us. The Tests are coming thick and fast now. Back-to-back, it is difficult,” Chris Silverwood said.

However, Silverwood admitted that it will be difficult to convince him to take a break especially with the series tied at 1-1 and Virat Kohli’s India will look at every opportunity to bounce back. He revealed that prior to the series, James Anderson made it clear that he would want to play every Test match. Before the 2nd Test at Lord’s, Anderson had a niggle but he still turned up and performed well.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: At Headingley, he was unplayable in the first hour of the first innings as James Anderson sent back KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in a spell of 8-5-6-3 as India folded for just 78 runs. However, despite his form, with Jofra Archer still injured and Ben Stokes on an indefinite break, England are looking to rest him in one of two Test matches in the series.

But considering the 5th Test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, his home ground, England are likely to play him there. In his place, Chris Woakes, who has returned from an injury will play in the 4th Test while Sam Curran is also doubtful due to his poor performances. With Mark Wood returning to the side, Sam Curran could also sit out.

However, considering the Ashes 2021 is doubtful due to Australia’s hard quarantine rules, James Anderson could also announce his retirement at home in Old Trafford as per his former teammate Steven Harmison.

“I’ve got a funny feeling, I don’t know what it is, but I really have got a funny feeling that Jimmy Anderson will retire at the end of Old Trafford,” Harmison told the talkSPORT cricket podcast.
