IND vs ENG: BCCI unhappy with Ravi Shastri & Virat Kohli for attending book launch event; Report

IND vs ENG – BCCI unhappy with Shastri, Kohli: What exactly happened? Just before the Oval test, Shastri, Kohli and few other members of the Indian party were part of a book launch with event comprising a packed audience. The duo had shared the stage during the programme without the approval of BCCI, the report added.

“The board will probe the matter. This incident has left the board embarrassed. The coach and the captain will be asked to explain the circumstances after the fourth Test at Oval. The team’s administrative manager Girish Dongre’s role is also under the scanner,” a top BCCI official told the daily.

Shastri & Kohli didn’t take clearance from ECB or BCCI either

Now, it has also come to the fore that the Indian team had not sought clearance from England Cricket (ECB) as well.

“The BCCI is in touch with ECB and trying to ensure the series is completed without any further incidents. As of now, everyone is hoping that Shastri recovers soon. There is a selection meeting for the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. Maybe the matter will be raised there,” the official added.

IND vs ENG – BCCI unhappy with Shastri, Kohli: The latest developments comes even as BCCI secretary Jay Shah had written to every member before the series to refrain from going to crowded places. But there is no confirmation that Shastri tested positive because of attending the event. The team hotel lift is also used by the other guests.

This is because as many as many three members of the Indian squad have tested positive for COVID-19 days after the staging of the event. While Ravi Shastri tested positive on Sunday, his close aids– bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar– also returned positive.

Meanwhile team India’s physio Nitin Patel is placed under isolation. The other members of the Indian squad are also being monitored regularly & luckily in 1st RT PCR test other team members have tested negative.

Luckily, every player of the India team squad tested negative in multiple tests.

No Ravi Shastri, bowling & fielding coach for fifth Test at Manchester: The latest development rules out Shastri’s presence in the fifth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. The final test is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford, Manchester from September 10-14. The absence of head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar will be a big blow for Team India. Their experience and feedback for the bowlers will be missed as they are currently isolating in hotel rooms after Ravi Shastri tested positive for COVID-19.

Notably, all the members of the India squad have been fully vaccinated but are staying outside bio-bubble, unlike IPL. The players and support staff were not keen on staying in bio-bubble. But as a precaution, they undergo RT-PCR Test every 5 days.

Stricter bio-bubble for India and England ahead of IPL

The two teams will now enter a stricter bio-bubble in Manchester for the final test at Old Trafford.

“There will be a proper bubble in Manchester. There’s the IPL coming up in UAE five days after the fifth Test finishes. The players will have to move in a bubble to UAE, else they will have to serve quarantine period upon reaching Dubai. Hopefully, there won’t be any further incidents once the team enters the bubble,” The Times of India quoted the official as saying.
