Ind vs Eng – England team to arrive in India in 2 batches, first batch to arrive on January 27: The England cricket team is set to tour India for 4 Test, 5 T20Is followed by 3 ODIs. Notably, the two-months long series will kick off with Test series for which England cricket will arrive in India in two batches. The four-match Test series will commence from 5th February.
It should be noted that Joe-Root-led England is currently in Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series and they will arrive in India on January 27. However, there is a small group consisting of players who are not part of the England Test squad in Sri Lanka, which will fly directly from the UK to India on January 22.
“The main group from Sri Lanka will arrive on 27th January. We also have a smaller group leaving on the 22nd January,” a top official of the England team management told Hindustan Times, indicating a couple of changes or addition to the England Test team is more or less certain.
The two batches of England cricketers will be under strict quarantine in Chennai, which will be their base in India for starters. The duration and protocols of the quarantine period are, however, yet to be confirmed.
“The directives are still to be confirmed by the BCCI. We will be under quarantine. That quarantine period is still to be confirmed by the BCCI,” the official added.When enquired about the concerns related to the UK strain of Covid-19, he said the England cricketers are well aware of the scenario and all of them will follow the guidelines.
“There are always concerns, but our protocols and efforts in keeping safe are excellent. These protocols will continue to be implemented in India. We remain vigilant and respectful of the Sri Lankan authorities and we will do everything that is possible to keep our players and the general population safe. We will do the same in India,” he said.
England all-rounder Moeen Ali, who was the only cricketer to return Covid-positive on arrival in Sri Lanka, has fully recovered and is likely to travel to India with the rest of squad.
“Moeen Ali has fully recovered and is now training with the squad,” the official said.
England are slated to announce their squad for the India series on Thursday.
Meanwhile, The Indian selectors led by Chetan Sharma on Tuesday named the squad for the first two Tests against England. Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ishant Sharma have made their way back into the squad. Rahul has been picked subject to fitness.

While Kohli was set to return after missing the three Tests against Australia as he had taken paternity leave, Hardik’s inclusion comes on the back of him working overtime on his fitness after returning from the Australia limited-overs series. His inability to bowl was a major concern for the team management.
The team has five stand-bys in Priyank Panchal, KS Bharat, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shahbaz Nadeem and Rahul Chahar. Net bowlers have also been included with an eye on the coronavirus situation and they are Ankit Rajpoot, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Warrier, K Gowtham and Saurabh Kumar.
