InsideSport.co is learning from its sources in the BCCI and also in the Indian team camp in England that some of the Indian players traveling with the families are ‘very reluctant’ to step out of their rooms to play the match. Especially the players who came in close contact with team physio Yogesh Parmar are very concerned & wary of stepping out. Most have travelled with families, especially children, and have made it extremely clear that they would not like to take unnecessary risks.

This means fifth and final Test between England and India will not begin on Friday as scheduled, and a final decision on whether and when the match will begin is awaited.

It is worth noting that before Parmar was tested positive, he was working very closely with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami & Ishant Sharma. All these players were carrying some niggles and were closely treated by the physio.

IND vs ENG LIVE 5th Test – Why Indian Players Reluctant to Play? The underlying fear is that Indian team members could develop symptoms or return positive tests during the match. The players are apprehensive that their families can also get affected by virus. According to some of the players, it is important to be very cautious & careful at this stage instead of attaching too much of importance to play the test match.

Generally, in Covid cases, the gestation period is probably a week or so and that often makes for test results turning positive after a good 72 to 96 hours.

InsideSport.co has also learnt from the BCCI sources, that the board’s Secretary Jay Shah will once again have discussion with the Indian captain and some other members of the team to take a final call on the match. The board is of the view that no player will be and should be pressurized to play the test scheduled for today at 3.30 PM.

The IPL in UAE is scheduled to begin on September 19. The IPL franchises currently based out in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are also getting concerned about the situation. Four of the IPL captains, various players from both the teams are currently part of the India & England squad and franchises are getting very wary of the situation.

The BCCI’s own IPL-related Covid protocols suggest that those travelling from the United Kingdom will have to be part of a strict bubble that will move from one country to another and ‘merge’ with the respective franchise bubbles.
