Will Jofra Archer get fit for 1st T20? Archer was left out for the final Test due to a right elbow issue. The injury has put question mark on his participation in the forthcoming T20 Series and as well as IPL 2021. But now the Rajasthan Royals bowler has privately revealed to Daily Mail that the current issue is unrelated to the stress fracture he suffered 14 months ago in South Africa.
According to Daily Mail, Archer is now feeling discomfort in different part of the elbow and he may be declared fit even for the 1st T20 against India.
The England Cricket’s medical team are continuing to monitor Archer carefully and final decision about his participation will be taken in the next 2 days.
“Jofra’s elbow did flare up a little bit and the medical staff are managing that at the moment,” Silverwood told ESPNCricinfo.
“Obviously we’ll monitor his progress. The medical staffs are talking about how we deal with this long term. He’s trained today with the white-ball squad. We’ll be monitoring his situation,” he added.
If the injury is found to be serious, Archer might have to pull out of IPL 2021 as well.
The 25-year-old bowled only 35.1 overs during entire Ind vs Eng Test series. The recurrence of the problem is likely to raise concerns about Archer’s future in the Test arena.
Meanwhile, England head coach Chris Silverwood has dismissed any talk of surgery at this stage. However, he accepted that England Cricket’s medical team are discussing how to deal with the situation in the long term.
Silverwood has said that he wants Jofra to be fit for all forms of cricket. He said that the pacer will receive every resource that is needed to make sure he does have a long and successful Test career.
England have lost the Test series 3-1 and need to turn around things in the shortest version of the game under Eoin Morgan.
