Eyes on Youngsters

Virat Kohli and Co are keen to raise their power games. For that, they have includes Mumbai Indians batsmen SuryaKumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. The duo have been offered a well-deserved chance. IPL’s surprise package Rahul Twatia, an allrounder and handy leg-spinner, was also picked by the selection committee. Meanwhile, the likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya will boost team India’s middle-order.

Opening Conundrum

Who Should be Rohit Sharma’s partner in the T20 World Cup? India can try both KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan with the Hitman.

While the Sharma-Rahul pair has an average of 50.72 and run-rate of 9.96, Shawan and Rohit average 33 together with a run-rate of 8.28. Having said that, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul have the potential to win matches on their own.

Area of Concern

One of the main concern for India is the fitness of Varun Chakravarty. He failed to enter the India squad twice– against Australia and now England. The mystery spinner had a lengthy rehab after he was ruled out of the Australia series due to a shoulder injury. Kohli came up with stern worlds for aspiring players for India. ”This is the topmost level and everyone should take our yardsticks seriously,” he said.

Meanwhile, T Natarajan is likely to miss the T20I opener due to a shoulder niggle.

Venue: Spin friendly or flat track

In the last two Tests, the pitch offered a lot for the spinners. Earlier in 2021, the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament was played at the venue. No teams were able to cross the 165-run mark.

England skipper Eoin Moran who is expecting a turning track said, “I think there will be turning wickets on offer. I look at it positively. Going into the T20 World Cup, it’s an area in which we need more experience. It’s a challenge we look forward to.”

It is almost certain that England will include both Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and India might go ahead with three spinners in the T20I opener.
