IND vs SL, 1st ODI: Good news for Team India, Hardik Pandya takes a wicket in bowling return – Premier India all-rounder Hardik Pandya made his bowling return in the first ODI against Sri Lanka here at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday. Pandya bowled five overs in which he took the wicket of Sri Lanka all-rounder Isuru Udana.
Pandya, who was expected to bowl in the series after recovering from the back injury, finished with the figures of 1/33 in the fives overs that he bowled. In the 47th over Pandya removed Udana on 8 runs. However, it was not the ideal return for him as he was smashed by Sri Lankan batters in the 1st and 5th over of his quota. He leaked runs at an economy of 6.60.
IND vs SL, 1st ODI: Pandya’s return to bowling is big news for Team India as it gives them the perfect balance in the team combination. There are not many Indian pace-bowling all-rounders in the international circuit. He has been in explosive form with the bat but his bowling is very vital for Team India looking at the T20 World Cup which is just around the corner. Pandya’s inclusion in the side also gives Indian team mangement the liberty to play two spinners in the side. Virat Kohli and company will keep a close eye on Pandya’s bowling form in the Sri Lanka series.
Meanwhile, India kept on taking wickets at regular intervals, but Chamika Karunaratne’s unbeaten 43-run knock helped Sri Lanka post 262/9 in the first ODI of the three-match series here at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
