IND vs SL 3rd ODI: 3 chances, 3 failures – Manish Pandey’s international career on crossroads – Team India middle-order batsman Manish Pandey has once again failed to capitalise on the chances given to him in the ODI series as he gets dismissed on 11 from 19 balls in the third and final ODI of the series against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Friday. Pandey had earlier scored 26 and 37 in the last two ODIs.
In the 25th over of the Indian innings of the 3rd ODI, Pandey fell against Praveen Jayawickrama. The left-arm spinner bowled slower outside off stump, Pandey went for a drive and edged it to the keeper.
Pandey made his ODI debut in 2015. He has been in and out of the Indian team in the last few years. The right-hand batsman has played 25 ODIs in which he has scored 566 runs at an average just above 30. Other than the famous hundred against Australia in Australia way back in 2015, Pandey has two fifties to his name.

IND vs SL 3rd ODI: Earlier talking to Insidesport Pandey’s coach Irfan Sait said that he has not got enough chances to prove himself. “First of all, I think we need to be fair to Manish. He has sat out of more matches than he has played in. he has never got to bat at a fixed position anywhere. If he is given a free run, I think he would be another big star in the Indian setup. He has been a bit unlucky you can say as he has never got a steady batting order and he has never got a good run. He has hardly played a full series where he can exhibit his talent and potential,” Irfan Sait said.
IND vs SL 3rd ODI: In the ongoing Sri Lanka series Indian team mangement was looking a Pandey as a backup middle-order batsman, who can hit the ball from word go. However, now that he has failed in the ODI series it will be interesting to see if India coach Rahul Dravid backs him in the T20I series. India will look to settle their Team for the T20 World Cup which will take place in UAE later this year.
Twitter also reacted to the Manish Pandey spoiling the chances he got in the ODI series.
I think this is the last international appearance 4 Manish Pandey. When he was on top of his game, he made to sit on bench. Now, when he is out of form he is given opportunity. Bad fate of the champ. He is a champion player but team blue never made complete use of him. #INDvsSL

26(40), 37(31), 11(19) by Manish Pandey in the series, with Iyer, Pant, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav available, it won’t be easy for Manish to make a comeback soon into the ODI format. #INDvsSL pic.twitter.com/qUAUpOul4B
