At the time of the toss, India captain Shikhar Dhawan said,” We are gonna bat first. Our bowling is quite strong. We are just focusing on today’s game, we are not going to take any pressure from the past. He (Saini) injured. We’ve got Sandeep Warrier.”
“We are happy to bowl first. Winning is very important, it’ll be very nice. Isuru Udana is out, Pathum Nissanka comes in,” said Dasun Shanaka.

The side has been severely depleted after Krunal Pandya tested positive for Covid-19 and eight close contacts — Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Deepak Chahar — are currently in isolation and ruled out of the T20I series.

To complicate matters the most, Team India have only five batsmen and six bowlers, severely compromising the side’s balance against a resurgent Sri Lanka. Coach Rahul Dravid admitted that the balance of the side has been compromised but the team will look to win the series nonetheless.
“It was felt medically that some of the guys who were his (Krunal’s) close contacts shouldn’t be participating in the series. We’ve got 11 to choose from, and all 11 are playing!” Rahul Dravid said before the match on Wednesday.
“To be very honest, I don’t think there’s any need to be sorry for us. The squad’s great, like I said everyone deserves to be in the XI. Our balance might be a bit compromised this game, but it’s a Twenty20 game and I truly believe we have the quality to really put up a good show,” he added.

Despite the fact that Team India added all five net bowlers from the reserve squad to the main squad, what they need is an experienced batsman. The 2nd T20 proved that only Shikhar Dhawan is in the form to bat but he is under severe pressure to take the team on. As he felt the necessity to stay on the crease longer, the scoring rate dipped on a difficult and slow surface to bat on.
The others barring Sanju Samson are all inexperienced and could not play longer. Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana all made their T20 debuts and the lack of experience and camaraderie did not help. In the final T20, all have to come together to play their best cricket to beat Sri Lanka, who are baking on their spinners to win the series.
