IND-W vs AUS-W 2nd ODI: Mithali Raj & Co eye return to form, aim to level series – Follow Live Updates: Needing a win to keep the series alive, India Women will be hoping to return to form against Australia Women when they take the field in the second ODI on Friday at the same venue. The hosts completely dominated Mithali Raj and Co in the opening game at Harrup Park, Mackay on Tuesday and lead the three-match series 1-0. With Tuesday’s win, Australia extended their world-record ODI winning streak to 25 matches and will be aiming to take it further. While it was Meg Lanning’s 200th international appearance Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy both passed 2000 ODI runs in the opening game.

Put into bat, India Women were off to a good start, but over time, they faded, and in the end, only managed to post a total of 225/8 on the back of skipper Mithali Raj’s fifty and some late hitting from wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh and Jhulan Goswami. In reply, the fifties from Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haynes, and Meg Lanning guided the hosts to an easy 9 wickets win with 54 balls to spare.

India Women need some improvement in both the departments, especially bowling that lacked penetration in the opening game. Meghna Singh looked the most dangerous of the seamers on debut but couldn’t pick up a wicket. In the batting, debutants Yastika Bhatia and Richa Ghosh were the only other players to pass 30 after Mithali Raj’s 61.

With a do-or-die situation to save the series, it will be interesting to watch how Mithali Raj and Co approach the game. India skipper Raj wants runs and partnerships, especially from the openers, ‘rather than thinking about fearless cricket’. Mithali Raj also said that she was unlikely to tinker much with the starting XI, she kept the possibility open for “maybe one or two changes” for the second ODI.

The match will start at 10:40 AM IST and will live stream on Sony Sports Network.
