IND W vs ENG W 1st ODI: Mithali Raj’s fifty goes in vain as England thrash India by 8 wickets – England opening batsman Tammy Beaumont scored 87 runs while Sophie Ecclestone picked three crucial wickets to help host beat the Indian women’s team by 8 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series here at the County Ground, Bristol on Sunday.

Chasing a below-par total of 202, England lost an early wicket of Lauren Winfield in the fifth over of the innings. India veteran Jhulan Goswami drew the first blood for the visitors. But on the other hand, Tammy was going on guns blazing. She was striking the ball above 100. Tammy scored 87 runs in 87 balls with the help of 12 beautiful boundaries and a massive six.

Ekta Bisht was the only other bowler who picked a wicket. Ekta removed England’s captain Heather Knight in the 16th overs of the innings of 18.

Tammy was then joined by England’s number four Natalie Sciver who also played a beautiful innings of 74 ball 74. She smashed 10 boundaries and one six in her innings.

With this win, England took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The second game will be played on June 30 Wednesday.

Indian women’s ODI skipper Mithali Raj feels the side needs to address the issue of dot balls before the visitors play against England in the second ODI.

Half-centuries from Tammy Beaumont and Natalie Sciver helped England women’s team register an easy win over India in the first ODI on Sunday.

India scored 201 in the 50 overs and had a total of 181 dot balls in their innings. Mithali said India lacked intent in all three departments in the first ODI against England.

“I think we lacked intent in all three departments. Could have had another from the top five stay there and get some runs. The bowlers could have been more consistent in their lengths, and our fielding needs a lot more effort. [Dot balls?] Something we need to address by the next game,” said Mithali after the completion of the first ODI.
