Sharath Kamal would be competing in men’s single & mixed doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics. Tokyo Olympics would be the fourth straight Olympics since the first one at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Although he is competing in singles, the best bet for a medal lies in mixed doubles. He would be teaming up with Manika Batra in mixed doubles, and they qualified for the Olympics by winning gold medal in the Asian Olympics qualification tournament.
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran will be competing in the men’s singles event at the Tokyo Olympics. Recently, he became the national champion after defeating 9-times national champion Sharath Kamal in the final. He rose to fame when he won three medals at the 2018 Gold coast commonwealth Games – Gold in the men’s team, Silver in men’s doubles, and bronze in mixed doubles.
Manika Batra will be competing in the women’s singles & mixed doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics. She was defeated by India’s Sutirtha Mukherjee in the Asian Qualifiers but still managed to qualify as the highest-ranked second-placed player at the Asian qualifiers. The main focus would be on her to perform well in the mixed doubles, where she will be pairing up with Sharath Kamal. A medal in mixed doubles is the only realistic hope for India in this sport.
Sutirtha Mukherjee will be competing in the women’s singles event at the Tokyo Olympics. She has two national singles titles won in 2017 and 2019 and in 2018 she was also part of India’s gold-winning women’s team at the 2018 Gold coast Commonwealth Games. Tokyo Olympics will be her first Olympic appearance.
