India at Tokyo Paralympics: Aided by Nagar’s Gold, India ends Tokyo Paralympics campaign with a record haul of 19 medals including 5 Gold medals – Sunday marked the final day of India’s historic Tokyo Paralympics campaign, with the games coming to a close after some heartwarming performances over the past few days. India ended their games with a tally of 19 medals, their most in a single edition, with Krishna Nagar and Suhas Yathiraj adding to the tally on the final day. Krishna Nagar clinched the gold medal on Sunday winning the gold medal adding to India’s tally at the Tokyo Paralympics. Nagar defeated Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai 21-17, 16-21, 21-17 to become India’s second shuttler to win the gold after Pramod Bhagat and the fifth athlete to clinch the top podium spot for India at the Tokyo Paralympics. Bhagat meanwhile, couldn’t add to his gold medal on Sunday, after he and mixed doubles partner Palak Kohli, lost out in their bronze medal match against Japan.

India suffered heartbreak in the early hours on Sunday as Tarun Dhillon missed out on a podium spot, having lost his bronze medal match to Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan. Fellow shuttler and IAS officer Suhas Yathiraj settled for silver after going down to Lucas Mazur in a pulsating gold medal match. Shooters Avani Lekhara, Sidhartha Babu and Deepak Saini meanwhile, failed to qualify for the finals of 50m mixed team event, with babu agonisingly missing out by a margin of .2.

Suhas Yathiraj will also be vying for a gold medal on the final day of the Tokyo Paralympics, as he takes on France’s Lucas Mazur in the SL4 final. The first civil servant from the country to represent India in the Tokyo Paralympics, Yathiraj defeated Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan 21-9, 21-15 to seal the match in just 31 minutes. Suhas will aim to clinch gold and take revenge against Lucas Mazur, who knocked out Tarun Dhillon in the semi-final on Saturday.

@6:15 AM – India at Tokyo Paralympics Day 12: Tarun Dhillon vs Fredy Setiawan – Men’s Badminton Singles SL4 BRONZE medal match 

Tarun Dhillon will aim to add to India’s medal tally when he faces off against Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan on Sunday. Dhillion lost to Lucas Mazur in straight sets in his semi-final clash, but still has the chance to seal the Paralympics glory, and will aim to do so when he takes the court. Should he win, India would be guaranteed a double podium spot in the same event, with Yathiraj having progressed to the final beating Setiawan.

@8:00 AM – India at Tokyo Paralympics Day 12: Krishna Nagar vs Chu Man Kai – Men’s badminton singles SH6 GOLD medal match 

Krishna Nagar is assured of a medal finish at the Tokyo Paralympics, and the Indian shuttler will aim to bag the gold medal in his final on Sunday. Arriving as the second seed in his category, Nagar defeated Great Britain’s Krystan Coombs 21-10, 21-11 in the semi-final to assure himself of at least a silver medal in his maiden Paralympics campaign. Nagar is the third Indian shuttler to make it to the final of the 2020 Paralympics, following Suhas Tahiraj and Pramod Bhagat.

@6:00 AM – India at Tokyo Paralympics Day 12: Shooting Mixed R6 – 50 m rifle prone SH1- Deepak Saini, Avani Lekhara and Sidhartha Babu 

Avani Lekhara has the rare opportunity to seal a Paralympics hat-trick when she along with Deepak Saini and Sidhartha Babu will line up for the mixed 50m rifle prone SH 1 qualification on Sunday. Lekhara has already won two medals so far in Tokyo and could add a third on Sunday if she manages to reach the finals. The trio had earlier failed to qualify for the finals of the R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1, but will hope to bounce back with a podium finish.
