Bangkok will host the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup finals next year. India, who had hosted the coveted BWF events for the Men’s and Women’s World Team titles in New Delhi in 2014, had also submitted bid to stage the events. However, the Badminton World Federation which met at Kuala Lumpur today ruled in favor of Bangkok.
Bangkok, New Delhi, Basel, Tokyo, Nanjing and Nanning were among the cities vying for the right to host some of the major tournaments for the BWF’s new Olympic 2018-2022 cycle.
Bangkok and New Delhi were fighting to host next year’s Thomas-Uber Cup Finals, Basel and Tokyo have shown interest in organising the 2019 World Championships. China is set to host two tournaments in 2019 as only Nanjing and Nanning have bid for the World Championships and Sudirman Cup.
