Cricket continues to be the deciding factor for the Indian television sports genre viewership ratings. The 5th and the last one day international of the six-match series between South Africa and India have been the most watched sports genre shows for Week 7 on the Broadcast Audience Research Council rating charts.
The cricket viewership has also enabled Sony Ten 1, Sony Ten 3 and Doordarshan Sports – the platforms broadcasting the Momentum Cup ODI series – to hold the top three positions among sports broadcasters top five list.
Sony Ten 1 has been the most watched sports channel for the week (Saturday, February 10, to Friday, February 16) with gross 347,741,000 impressions. Sony Ten 3, broadcasting the Hindi programming of the India –South Africa ODI series, is placed second with 322,527,000 impressions, followed by Doordarshan Sports (293,027,000 impressions), which has also benefited from the India-South Africa Momentum Cup simulcast.
There continues to be the yawning gap between the live international cricket and other sports programming. Star Sports 1, placed at the number five position behind free to air Star Sports First (80,003,000 impressions) has registered a mere 39,113,000 impressions, which is more than 80% short of Sony Ten 1 in the top position.
Fifth ODI on Sony Ten 3 with 7,548,000 impressions is the most-watched sports programme for the week, with its simulcast on DD Sports (6,970,000) and Sony Ten 1 (6,760,000) being in the third and fourth positions respectively.
Sixth ODI has attracted more eyeballs on Doordarshan Sports (7,193,000 impressions) to be the second show for the week, while the lead broadcaster Sony Ten 3 has only garnered 6,162,000 impressions for the same game – just good enough for a position in the top five list.
