The T20 International series decider between India and South Africa has dominated the Indian television sports genre viewership charts.
All the top five sports genre shows in Broadcast Audience Research Council data for Week 9 (February 24-March 2) are either the live broadcast of the match on different channels or the mid-innings show. The match viewership has also enabled Sony Ten 1 to maintain its top position among sports broadcaster.
The Hindi language broadcast of the third and last T20I between hosts South Africa and India on Sony Ten 3 has been the most watched sports event for the week with 10,547,000 impressions as India beat hosts Proteas to clinch the series 2-1. The simulcast of the same content on national broadcaster’s DD Sports has registered 9,363,000 impressions to be in the third position for the week.
The English language broadcast on Sony Ten 1 has been the second most watched sports show with (10,078,000 impressions). The mid innings show 4th Umpire on DD Sports (4,355,000 impressions) and the Extra Innings on Sony Ten 3 (3,939,000 impressions) have been in the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Sony Ten 1, in spite of losing out over 4 crore impressions over the previous week’s numbers has managed to stay at top (226,171,000 impressions) on the strength of the viewership for the series decider. Sony Ten 3, holding on to its number two position, has recorded 140,003,000 impression, a sharp decline from the 211,966,000 impressions registered in the previous week.
However, Star Sports First has climbed to the number three position (95,311,000 impressions), relegating DD Sports (78,909,000 impressions) to the No. 4 position in a stiff competition between sports’ two FTA platforms. Star Sports 1 breaks into the top 5 list on the in spite of a weak showing, having registered only 30,856,000 impressions for the week.
