India Tour of England – India Tour Matches: The Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team, currently enjoying a two-week holiday break in different parts of England, will play a warm-up match from July 20-22. After the debacle in the World Test Championship against New Zealand, BCCI has managed to convince England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for two tour matches. The board has now asked all the cricketers to assemble at Emirates Riverside, Durham for their Pre-Test Camp by July 14.

According to the information available, once the Indian team reassembles in Durham – both the tour matches will be organized in Chester-le-Street, County Durham. India will first play a four-day fixture against an unnamed county team and then will be involved in a 3 day game against County Select XI.

As per ANI, the three-day match will be played from July 20. “The BCCI made a request to the ECB for a warm-up game and it will be played from July 20 to 22. The squad will be decided soon,” a source told ANI.

India Tour of England – India Tour Matches: After the WTC Final, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah made calls to ECB chairman Ian Whatmore and CEO Tom Harrison to arrange warm-up matches. While the opponent and the fixture of the other match is yet to be worked out, the ECB has agreed to BCCI’s request despite the T20 Blast and later The Hundred tournaments.

“We are working through the operations and COVID-19 protocols to ensure we are able to deliver this and will confirm in due course,” said an ECB spokesperson to Daily Mail.

“The Indian Test team will report to Emirates Riverside, Durham for their pre-Test camp on July 15 and will prepare at the venue until August 1 before heading to Trent Bridge, Nottingham ahead of the first Test starting on August 4.’

India Tour of England – India Tour Matches: It is worth noting that originally India was scheduled to play India A squad in two warm-up matches. Due to Covid-19 related issues, the India A team tour to England was cancelled. Post that it was decided that Virat Kohli’s Indian team will play two intra-squad matches. But after the nightmarish performance against New Zealand, BCCI had requested ECB to arrange two tour matches for the Indian team – which now will be played in Durham.

Most of the Indian squad members currently have decided to take a break and are spending time with family and friends in and around London.

India Tour of England – Bad News for India & Shubman Gill

India Tour of England – Shubman Gill Injured: In what comes as a big blow for Virat Kohli’s Team India, opener Shubman Gill has suffered an internal leg injury and is doubtful for the series starting from August 4. While the young batsman’s place was in question, the injury could also rule him out of the entire five-match series. Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul could come in his place.

According to the information coming in from the Indian camp, Shubman Gill has suffered a shin injury and is out for minimum eight weeks.

A BCCI official confirmed the development to PTI and said that Gill is doubtful for the entire series and Abhimanyu Easwaran could come into the main squad.

“There is a chance that Shubman could be ruled out of the whole Test tour even though it is still a month away. The injury is serious is what we have come to know,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
