India Tour of Sri Lanka: Prithvi Shaw very confident, ‘will grab this opportunity & win Sri Lanka series for India’: India tour of Sri Lanka – Prithvi Shaw Ready to Rock: Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw expressed his commitment to fully utilize the opportunity in form of white-ball series vs Sri Lanka. According to Shaw he will try his best to win the series for India and prove himself. Shaw is looking forward to playing alongside his IPL 2021 & Delhi Capitals teammate Shikhar Dhawan.
In an interaction on the Star Sports show “Follow the Blues”, Shaw said he is very committed to display his talent during the tour of Sri Lanka.
“If you ask me personally, obviously, I need to grab this opportunity as well because I have got this opportunity after a long time. So that is what is there in my mind.”
India tour of Sri Lanka – Prithvi Shaw Ready to Rock: The right-handed batsman asserted that he puts the nation first and wishes to lift the series every time he plays for the Team.
“When I play for India or any team, I always put the team forward. So obviously, I want to win this series for India.”
India tour of Sri Lanka: Shaw’s bond with Shikhar Dhawan
The 21-year old hogged light on the chemistry he shares with senior player Shikhar Dhawan. He mentioned how the connect has got stringer that started with their association when the two opened for Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
“I and Shikhi bhai are opening for the Delhi Capitals, we were good friends before that as well, but after that our bonding has become better because off the field also we spent quite a lot of time with each other, whether it was dinner or chilling in his room.”
Shaw mentioned that the great camaraderie between the two players, which has often been seen on the turf while the two are batting.
“We used to talk a lot and because of that, that bond was seen on the wicket as well. We used to speak a lot about cricket there as well, off the field or in between overs. It is enjoyable to bat alongside him.”
India tour of Sri Lanka: Shaw’s last stint for Team India
Prithvi Shaw has long been vying for a spot in the Indian Team after he was axed from the playing squad courtesy of his poor performance in Australia. In the first Test against the Kangaroos overseas, he departed without scoring a run. Shubman Gill was then taking as his replacement. Shaw was denied a spot during the series against England as well.
However, his recent cameos in domestic cricket- the first player to breach the 800-run mark in a Vijay Hazare Trophy season followed by his sublime form in IPL make him a favorite opening choice alongside skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the white-ball series against the neighboring country.
Further, his smashing fifty during India’s second intrasquad match last week has cemented his chances for the opening spot.
Besides, InsideSport had earlier learned from a team source in Colombo that at the current stage Prithvi Shaw leads the race.
“Shaw scored pile of runs in the restricted domestic season. Dhawan & Shaw have great understanding as opening partners as they come from the same IPL team. I will be surprised, if anyone else will be played as India’s opening pain in the 1st ODI on 13th July, I think both Ruturaj and Padikkal will have to wait for their chances”, declared the team source from Colombo.
