India vs Eng T20 – KL Rahul: Hailing KL Rahul as the best T20 batsman in the world, former Chief Selector MSK Prasad said “dropping” or not including him in India’s “Playing XI” is just “unthinkable” considering the kind of form the elegant batsman was in recent times specially during lPL 2020 season that concluded in mid November last year.
“I strongly believe that KL Rahul is the best T2O batsman in the world. Not just his form and exploits in the recent past. the way he plays his game in different gears with controlled aggression and innovative shots he is a pleasure to the eyes. I will say he has been India’s find in the past few years and is waiting to be the next big thing for Team India. The idea of dropping him from the squad or playing someone else in his place if he is fit is just not done. It’s simply unthinkable,” MSK Prasad told Insidesport.co in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

KL Rahul can’t be dropped from Indian line up: When asked if Suryakumar Yadav can be given a chance at number 4, Prasad was quick to question, “How can you drop KL Rahul who is the world’s most exciting talent and I will say the best at the top order in T2O format. Suryakumar can wait. His chance will come. Rahul also had to wait for a long time. I will say if India wins the first 3 matches, Suryakumar or Ishan Kishan can be tried as a rotation policy with seniors like Virat or Rohit taking rest for two matches,” he observed.
Former Chief Selector believed that Team India will do much better in T20 format than the just concluded Test series which India won 3-1. “I think India will just get better and better with more cricket. India is the best Test playing nation there is no doubt about it. But it’s even better in the shorter formats of the game. Just look at the team. It’s just invincible. You have Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan at the top followed by Virat Kohli. Undoubtedly the best top order along with KL Rahul, who I think is the best T20 batsman in the world. Then you have highly talented Shreyas Iyer with the sensational Rishabh Pant. And then comes Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar. Can you beat this batting line up? This team bats so deep and all eight are match winners on their days. It will be near impossible for any team to restrict this kind of batting line up. You score anything, India will chase it down. Batting first they will just take the game away from any opponent. I am seeing a virtual whitewash or a 4-1 result.” MSK Prasad told Insidesport.co in an exclusive interview on Thursday.
Asked about his bowling combination to complete the “Playing XI”, the former chairman of selection committee said he would go with pace duo of Bhubaneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar with Hardik Pandya as third seamer while Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar will be his preferred spin duo. “In the shortest format of the game I will go with 3 seamers and 2 spinners and the role of all rounders like Hardik and Sundar will be crucial. Bhubanehswar’s experience cannot be ignored, Chahar has been very accurate and consistent while Chahal’s control and street smartness is always handy in this format,” he noted adding that he will stick to this playing XI in the first 3 T2O matches.
