India vs England: How series results will affect India’s rankings in World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle – After their disappointing defeat in the inaugural World Test Championship final, Team India began their new campaign with a five-Test series. Here’s a look at all possible result scenarios during the India vs England series and how it affects the World Test Championship points tally.

India win remaining four Tests

Each win in the World Test Championship cycle is worth 12 points, and should Virat Kohli and Team India clinch four victories, they will bag 48 points in total. Should there be no over-rate fines and point deductions, Team India will have 50 points at the end of their tour of England in this scenario, which should place them in pole position for yet another final’s appearance.

India win 3-1 

A loss is worth no points and should Virat Kohli and Co. win three games and lose one during the India vs England series, they will have 36 points to take home from the four Tests. Barring deductions, Virat Kohli and should have 38 points at the end of the series, placing them in good stead to finish in the top two spots.

India win 3-0

  • The three test wins will see India clinch 36 points
  • In case of a draw in the fourth game, India will claim 40 points.
  • A tie will see India clinch 42 points.

India wins 2-1 

  • The two test wins will earn India 24 points.
  • Two wins and a draw will see India bag 28 points.
  • Two wins and a tie will see India clinch 30 points.

India wins 2-0

  • The two test wins will earn India 24 points.
  • In case of two draws, the tally will be 32 points
  • In the case of two tied matches, the tally will rise to 36 points.
  • In case of a tied and a drawn game, India will have 34 points.
